About this spot

Reef at the entrance to Lagundri Bay, on the opposite side from The Point (Sorake): a hollow, powerful left, a spot distinct from The Point despite being close by (~1km). The reef uplift from the 2005 earthquake made it shallower and less consistent (needs high tide and big SW swell); experienced level, dry season May-October (best in July).

Frequently asked about The Machine

What tide is best for surfing The Machine?

At The Machine, tide isn't a deciding factor: the spot stays surfable across most tide states. Focus on the swell and the wind instead.

Is The Machine suitable for beginners?

The Machine is rather accessible to beginners when the waves stay small and the wind is light. Still, check currents, tide and local guidelines before entering.

What wind is ideal for The Machine?

The ideal wind at The Machine comes broadly from North: it's offshore, which helps shape and hold the waves. A strong onshore wind generally degrades conditions.
